Commissioned by masters Tuba student John Lithco of McGill University, this piece aims to be an antithesis of the traditional low brass quartet. Subtitled "Bubbles", I wanted this work to be light and bouncy, but also unpredictable and popping. John showed me how agile and spry the tuba was and I wanted to highlight this, while also voicing the ensemble to let each part speak without mud. This piece came about overnight and it was a joy to hear the premiere some weeks later by John himself and his fellow studio members.
